"World's Best" Paul McCartney Look-a-like (aka Mike Olie) made an in-store appearance on the grand opening day. See pics. More special events to come in 2007! Fest News 2006: Update August 15, 2006 Another FABulous Fest was had by all at this year's Chicago Fest! It was great to see 'old' friends - Kelly, Bill, Cheryl of Frame Your Music, Paul next to Kelly folks; Gary & Wayne of PopCulture; Melissa McGuire & Linda Cain of the Peace Museum; and all the returning and new vendors like San Diego's Nanette, maker of the 'light' Peace necklace; the talented author & musician Stu Shea & wife Cecilia; "Sir Paul" (Mike Olie), wife Cilla & son Josh; "Mick Jagger" Paul & his TWIN (yes) brother Mark; Liz Gaylord of Harrison Works Art Gallery; Davo; Bob Dobro, the 5th "Beatle" of Liverpool Legends; Terri Hemmert; Victoria; 6 yr. old Joe & his dad; 7 yr old Cassidy; Keith, and so many more. We met some new friends...Jesse from Canada who bought a 7" "YES" hand-painted tambourine, as well as many others. Click HERE to see some photos of the new owners.....and a 'little' singing group called, "Stock Wood" from Woodstock IL who stopped by our booth after winning the Battle of the Bands! Congrats to them & their supportive families! Stock Wood is the world's youngest Beatles tribute band. Click HERE to see some photos of their "historic visit". During their visit, "Ringo's" dad bought a set of bongos him....Ringo's Bongos. A special thanks to our friends Susan and Ann who helped us in the booth throughout the 'long and winding' weekend. It was a blast, wasn't it? Thanks a million! Sitar Emporium's booth was filled with SITARS, TABLAS, TANPURAS, UKULELES, INCENSES,.... BEATLE VIOLIN-SHAPE BASS, VIOLINS, FLUTES/ TIN WHISTLES, MANDOLINS, HARMONICAS, TRIANGLES,....and what's become a favorite Sitar Emporium FEST item - GiGi's Hand-Painted Tambourines. GiGi's 2006 tambourine designs awed Fest-goers who had a hard time deciding which tambourine they wanted! A very special tambourine was painted and donated to the Spirit Foundation Charity Auction. GiGi painted a "Lady Godiva" Tambourine and had it autographed by PETER & GORDON who were the special guests of the Fest this year, as well as Klaus Voorman, Mark Hudson & more. They all put on a fantastic show!!! And, congrats to Jim Smith who won it! Click HERE. Chicago Sitar Teacher, co-founder and sitarist of Sandalwood Sitar Music Ensemble CLAR MONACO gave numerous demonstrations on the sitar for Fest-goers, playing many Beatles tunes such as "Norwegian Wood", "Hard Days' Night", "Inner Light"....as well as some classical ragas. We'll cherish this weekend for a long time & look forward to see all of you at the Fest in 2007! Stay well and keep in touch! |
