May 1st is the official Hawaiian day of this fragrant, colorful, musical festival. State parades block the streets of Honolulu, displaying floats made of fresh flowers, the royal Hawaiian May Day court, Hawaiian musicians and dancers. This is a day of celebration in 'Hawai'i nei'. POWER STRUMS 101 UKULELE WORKSHOP" with C. LANIALOHA LEE Learn techniques in ukulele strumming by one of Chicago's most highly-respected veteran and acclaimed musician and educator of Hawaiian music, dance and culture, Lanialoha Lee. By attending this workshop, you'll also be helping "Hanai A Child, Hanai An Ukulele", a program designed to help underpriviledge Hawaiian children who can't afford an ukulele to continue and maintain their cultural heritage. Funds raised will give a child an ukulele, gig bag, tuner and strings. Lanialoha personally delivers and teaches these keikis, giving them hope for their future. 'Hanai' is Hawaiian which means 'to care for, nourish, foster, adopt'. Wonderwall is proud to co-sponsor this program. |
