Hau'oli Makahiki Hou! (Happy New Year!)

Gee I can't believe we're almost to the middle of January....time flies when we're having fun, and believe me, we are!

Members reconvened on Thursday, Jan. 8 after a 2 week winterbreak....oh, boy were we all anxious to play together! And, we welcomed more new members:

Alicia from the northside of Chicago; Ted, who needed a ride (thanks Steve!); Jeremy, who rode his bike through the snow from Concordia U; Peter, who's a long-time ukulele player

We're focusing on Hawaiian songs...some popular 'familiar' ones, and some Hawai'i standards that only a couple folks knew, and one no one heard of unless you grew up in Hawai'i.

We're practicing these songs in preparation to play during the Obama Inauguration Party which I'm organizing & hosting here at Eastgate through the Move On organization. There will be a Hawaiian theme as we will be acknowledging Obama's Hawaiian heritage as well as my own. Thrilled!

Anyone wishing to attend must RSVP as space is limited.

News Flash!: CBS2 Chicago invited the Harrison Street Ukulele Players to perform LIVE on the Early Morning News Show on Friday, Jan. 16 prior to the Obama Inauguration 'Hawaiian-style' Party! We performed "Hukilau", "I Saw Her Standing There" and "Eight Days A Week" (The Beatles), "We're Into Something Good (adaptation of the Herman Hermits' song, "I'm Into Something Good" in honor of President-elect Obama). Go to: CBS2 Chicago's Video Library or YouTube! Whoo-hoo!
